Our Adoption Timeline
3/21/08: Met with Adoption Agency and met our home study service provider. Began the "paper chase" for nsn baby girl.
3/26/08: Ordered Passports; First Home Study Visit
4/21/08: Finished International Adoption Classes (a new Hague requirement) Decided to look into special needs adoptions after learning about special needs adoptions.
May 08: Second Homestudy Visit. Found out we needed child abuse clearances from when Dan was in the Military. Huh? What? From Iraq, Somalia, and Saudi Arabia? Also changed Home Study to say girl OR boy.
Summer 08....waited for clearances and just became numb to the whole process, thinking it would never happen.
Mid Aug. 08: Call from Home Study social worker. It had been determined that combat situations didn't require child abuse clearances. (Don't get me started.)
Mid Aug. 08: Home Study Complete!
Aug. 27 08: I-8o0A received at NBC/USCIS
Sept 6 08: Sent final pictures and paperwork for special needs
Sept 11 08: Officially decided to adopt a child with special needs, and it will most likely be a boy! We were open to either one.
9/18/08: Fingerprint appointment
9/19/08: LOI for our boy!
12/12/08: 104 days later, I-800a was approved!
1/5/09: DTC--Dossier to China!
1/21/09: LID (Log In Date) The wait for LOC begins!
4/30/09: CCAA make an announcement regarding Swine Flu.
5/26/09: LOC! Day 126
5/27/09: LOC mailed to CCAA in Beijing; I-800 mailed to NBC/Hague. (National Benefits Center/USCIS)
6/10/09: I-800 Approval (Hague for Tyson's Visa)
6/15/09: Paperwork arrives at National Visa Center (NVC)
6/19/09: NVC Cable to US Consulate in Guangzhou
6/30/09 (est): Article 5 from US Consulate--on to CCAA!
Thousands of starfish washed ashore. A little girl began throwing them in the water so they would not die. "Don't bother, dear," her mother said. "It won't make a difference." The girl stopped for a moment and looked at the starfish in her hand. "It will make a difference to this one."
